The Future of Open Source and Indie Games
With rising prices for RAM and hardware in general, I am growing increasingly concerned about the indie dev scene. If prices continue to climb, personal PCs will soon become unaffordable for many — and hobby developers may have no choice but to quit once their hardware gives up. Recovering a €3,000 investment through an indie game is a tough ask. The same goes for dedicated open-source developers who code in their free time and contribute to something that benefits everyone. If the cost of the tools keeps rising, some may simply walk away from their hobby. Brave new world.
